Occupying three beautiful campuses (Whiteknights, with its early 19th century planned landscape, London Road with its formal gardens and ceremonial Great Hall, and Greenlands, Henley-on-Thames, with its riverside garden landscape) the unique “University within a Park” setting of the University of Reading is an inspiring place to come to work. 

The Estates Directorate is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and operation of the 186 buildings within the Academic Estate and following a recent internal merger, the Campus Services and Maintenance Services teams now sit within Estates Campus Operations and are collectively responsible for the delivery of all hard and soft facilities management operations across the University.

In addition to managing the academic buildings, the Estates team also supports the maintenance and management of approximately 200 other buildings within the University’s commercial, strategic, and residential portfolios as and when required.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a professional and energetic Building Support Officer to join our expanding, highly efficient, and resourceful team within Campus Operations.

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, flexible person with experience working within a facilities Management environment. As a Building Support Officer, you will be the primary point of contact for the building occupants (School, functions, and others) of designated buildings within an assigned zone of the university. The post holder will also university and external service/providers to safeguard the proficient operational management of the buildings and help to enable the occupants to deliver their university business successfully.

Working in close collaboration with colleagues across the wider Estates directorate, you will be a key member of the Campus Operations Team delivering a high level of service to a wide variety of associates in a complex multi-stakeholder environment.

You will have:

  • Previous, current, or recent experience of working in a busy Facility Management role. 
  • A positive and proactive approach to managing Health and Safety and promoting its importance amongst the stakeholders.
  • Extensive and recent experience in a front facing, customer led environment.
  • Proven problem-solving ability to prioritise competing workloads.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, professionally, verbally and in writing.
  • An understanding and appreciation of the challenges that exist within a complex estate.
  • An ability to work and thrive under pressure.
  • Proven IT skills in a range of software packages
