About the Role

Our BA Fine Art (Hons) course sits within the Design & Digital Arts Department within the Nottingham School of Art and Design. The subject area benefits from an excellent reputation and recruit’s high calibre students with strong creative and academic abilities and the course is designed to develop these talents to ensure that our graduates leave us with unique combinations of knowledge, skills and attributes that are aligned to the contemporary art world now and in the future.

We are looking for someone who has a strong understanding of contemporary art practice within a broad based context, ideally with specialist interest in the intersections between material practices and new technologies. You will have links with the wider art market and its related industries within professional or commercial contexts, either as a practitioner, an artist or curator. You will also have a good understanding of how audiences engage with art in a variety of in person contexts, and online platforms.

As a key member of the Fine Art team you will provide academic leadership for the course, ensuring that it reflects University and School policy, practice and processes. You will ensure the effective management and delivery of the course addressing issues related to course quality, student satisfaction, progress, and retention. You will be required to liaise and work effectively with the course team to deliver a dynamic and exciting curriculum, ensuring the quality and currency of the course and student experience. You will take an active role in raising the student, course and subject profiles, shaping and enhancing course design and future curriculum development. You will also be working in partnership with the Principal Lecturer to deliver the strategic aims and ambitions of the course and department. You will contribute to a range of modules across the subject area and will be able to offer the required knowledge and attributes as detailed in the attached person specification in one or more of the following areas:

  • Digital production methods within a contemporary art context.
  • Interest and knowledge in the intersection between more traditional art practices and emerging technologies.
  • Strong ties to creative industry or artistic networks whether regionally, nationally or internationally.

You will have an excellent understanding of the subject area as well as knowledge of contextual research and current professional practice within the contemporary art field.

For more details, please take a look at the role profile.

We'll still consider applications even if you don't meet every single one of the requirements, so don't be put off if you don't match them perfectly.
