The University of Southampton is passionate about the wellbeing of our students.  We have an exciting opportunity to join us as our Student Wellbeing Outreach Manager within our Student Wellbeing Service.  The service provides a range of specialist support to our students throughout their studies which aims to enable them to make the most of their time at University, develop healthy habits, and thrive in their future lives and careers.

About the Role

The Student Wellbeing Outreach Manager is responsible for the leadership of a core team of wellbeing advisors and team leaders.

Our 24/7 Wellbeing Team operates 365 days a year to proactively support students in maintaining their wellbeing through advice and guidance and works closely with teams across the university to maintain a safe and positive student experience, day and night.

This team works alongside a multi-disciplinary team who offer more specialist support and expertise to students including Practitioner support, Student Support Reviews and counselling.  Therefore, working together with this team is a key function of this role to ensure a seamless and safe student experience which creates a culture which puts students at the heart of decision making.

Developing and maintaining our partnerships with health professionals, public protection providers and other organisations helps us to extend our support to students to fully meet their individual needs.

As the team offers a 24/7 service, it is important that the working hours of this post is commensurate to provide leadership and management to members of the team who work outside of normal office hours.  As such, a typical week may include working to 8pm on 2 occasions and will allow flexibility to meet the needs of the service.

About You

We are looking for a strong leader with excellent communication skills and proven experience of managing outcomes in relation to student wellbeing.  Committed to high performance and continuous improvement, you will have a good grasp of the challenges facing higher education, with a track record that includes managing a team in a relevant context, risk assessment and crisis management in challenging situations.

You will be able to work in complex situations, often with conflicting demands, applying judgement and initiative to prioritise activity and develop clear action plans. Frequently, students and staff alike may require support and guidance during times of heightened risk or crisis; a sensitive and effective approach with the ability to withstand challenging situations will be essential.

As our Student Support provision operates a 24/7 service, you will be expected to be a member of an ‘Out of Hours’ rota that provides management escalation for our 24/7 service.
