Brighton is ranked 11th nationally for ‘value added’ – a score which compares students’ degree results with their entry qualifications to show how effectively they are taught (Guardian University Guide 2024) and in the top 50 in England for Graduate Prospects (Good University Guide Times/Sunday Times 2024). In September, the Office for Students (OfS) announced that the University of Brighton has been awarded an overall rating of Silver in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). 

We are seeking a Vice-Chancellor to succeed Professor Debra Humphris CBE.  You will be an exceptional leader, visible and collaborative, internally and externally, with creative, innovative and strategic thinking for our next chapter.  We are an incredibly diverse community in one of the most inclusive cities in the world, and leadership at Brighton will require bringing our university communities and external stakeholders with us as we look to enhance our impact on our students, our city, and the communities we serve. 

Candidates for the role will need to bring an outstanding track record of transformational and collegiate leadership, operational and resource management in an organisation of relevant complexity and scale, and a high level of commercial awareness. An understanding of the challenges facing the higher education sector, as well as the ability to be a credible leader and champion of the University’s academic mission will also be key.
