The role

The postholder will provide local technical support to the School of Psychological Sciences.

You will be involved in supporting laboratory and experimental work for learning and teaching primarily with undergraduate students on our conversion course, but they may also be involved with support at postgraduate taught and research levels. This will involve reviewing risk assessments, providing training and support for software and specialist equipment and ensuring equipment is properly maintained.

What will you be doing?

You will:

  • Liaise with academic staff responsible for teaching core BPS content and research methods in order to be jointly responsible for the integrated student experience.
  • Support student use of laboratory and other research facilities, appropriate to the research projects that students undertake in their studies. This will include use of software for experiment generation and statistical analysis.
  • Liaise with other members of the Professional Services team in set up and maintenance of research and teaching facilities.
  • Develop demonstration sessions in collaboration with academic staff for show-casing available research equipment in the School.

You should apply if

You have:

  • Experience of working in a psychology environment or relevant scientific teaching and research environment.
  • Excellent IT skills, with expert knowledge of relevant specialist software and experimental techniques (e.g., SPSS, Matlab, R, Psychopy).
  • Ability to understand how psychological experiments are designed, conducted, and analysed.
  • Knowledge of current health and safety regulations and safe working practices
