About us
UCL Careers provides careers education to current students, graduates and staff of UCL, as well as recruitment solutions for employers. UCL Careers provides a ‘core’ service for all students as well as careers support for faculties and departments.
UCL East is UCL’s single biggest development since we were founded, with its first two buildings opening in 2022 and 2023. Located on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, UCL East will be dedicated to disruptive thinking and discovery across disciplines and beyond academic walls, to find solutions to the biggest challenges for future living.
About the role
As part of UCL’s expansion to east London, we are seeking to appoint a Careers Consultant (0.6 FTE) to work as part of a new and growing UCL Careers presence at the UCL East campus. This is a new post, which will work to develop and deliver careers education programmes to the students at UCL East. In addition, the Careers Consultant will conduct 1:1 careers guidance appointments, and work collaboratively on a range of UCL Careers projects.
A crucial element of the role is a passion for mentoring / coaching others, and for supporting personal development. There will be lots of work with internal and external colleagues and stakeholders, so confidence in, and the enjoyment of, developing relationships and partnership working is really important, as well as the ability to plan, lead on and manage areas of work to a high standard and agreed objectives / outcomes.
Throughout your work, you will liaise with careers consultants, work-related learning staff and others across UCL Careers to share best practice and ensure consistency of standard across UCL.
About you
With experience of providing student careers guidance, you should be a confident presenter and facilitator and enjoy running group sessions as well as working with students 1:1. You should enjoy, and have experience of, work with a range of stakeholders so that you are well equipped to work closely with students, academic staff, support staff and employers. Previous work experience within higher education would be advantageous as would knowledge of the issues facing graduates entering the world of work. Experience working in, or knowledge of, career areas relating to some of the areas of study at UCL East would be beneficial. As part of a small, agile and growing team (within the larger UCL Careers team), you should be able to collaborate and play your part in the team effectively and proactively.
Your application must include a CV and supporting statement. Both will be assessed on how well you evidence the essential and desirable criteria in the job description. The supporting statement must also explain your motivation for applying for this job role and why you wish to work for UCL Careers.
