About the role:
The Faculty Biological Safety manager will support the wide range of activity across the faculty that involves biological agents. The role will work closely with all areas of the faculty, supporting research staff to identify appropriate ways to mitigate the risks posed from their activities. The post holder will work with the KCL Health and Safety Services team to provide safety advice and improvements for new build and existing facilities supporting biological activity. The post holder will assist with the implementation of the new Safety management system and act as secretary for the Biological Safety committee. The role will advise research staff on all aspects of Biological Safety and practices, including the completion of Biological Safety risk assessments and Biological Safety audit and inspections. The post holder will lead on the safety of Home Office designated facilities within the faculty, including inspection and auditing, developing action plans for improvements and implementation. The post holder will work closely with Schools/Centre and Health and Safety Services in the implementation of safety responsibilities. The post holder will have oversight of the safety management system for biological activities in FoLSM and assist with the implementation of the new Safety system (Cority) and transition to business as usual.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a laboratory research or higher education environment. They will have knowledge and experience of Health and Safety, with background in Biological Safety and compliance. They will be a solutions-orientated individual, that can build networks throughout the faculty and wider university and will be expected to collaborate closely with the central Health and Safety Services team.

The role is an on-site post with the opportunity to work one day per week remotely.
The role will be based at the Guys campus but will be expected to travel regularly to St Thomas, Waterloo, and Denmark Hill campuses.
