We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.
Salary
Research Assistant: £31,396 to £32,982 per annum.
Research Associate: £33,966 to £44,263 per annum.
The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Assistant / Associate with relevant experience to work on an exciting national research project in the specific area of temperature and climate change. You will lead our research efforts in the development and analysis of temperature and other climate datasets to help transform our understanding of temperature-health relationships in the most vulnerable population groups under current and future climates.
Based in the School of Engineering, Newcastle University, you will play a key role in estimating the probability of occurrence of outdoor air temperature/humidity extremes nationally and at high resolution for urban environments under current and future climates. You will be responsible for developing approaches to combine multiple data sources (e.g. point-data, gridded and reanalysis data) to facilitate the identification and statistical characterisation of health-relevant heat events.
Your work will contribute to the development of city and national level spatial tools that present the risks and their components for vulnerable groups identified elsewhere in the project, and how these will change in the future. This will allow the identification of high-risk groups and areas, and exploration of risk reduction measures.
You will work alongside leading data scientists, clinical practitioners, technology providers and researchers from the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University, and with colleagues at the University of Southampton, Northumbria University, Kings College London, Forest Research and other stakeholders.
This is a full-time position for a fixed term period of 24 months.
