The Open University is the UK’s largest university, a world leader in flexible part-time education combining a mission to widen access to higher education with research excellence, transforming lives through education.

The role

We are currently recruiting for a Curriculum Tutor to support the PGCE Programme at the OU, which offers two routes into teaching in Wales via an employment-based approach or through part time study.

The role holder will be part of the Curriculum Tutor team for the PGCE at the OU in Wales and will be responsible for student teaching and assessment across a range of core and professional ITE curriculum areas as well as their own area of expertise in relation to the subject curriculum. There is some flexibility in this element and we particularly welcome applicants with expertise in Primary teaching or Secondary teaching (Welsh, Languages or ICT and Computing). Additionally, the role holder will be responsible, along with the Academic Lead for Welsh, for oversight of students’ assessment in relation to the Welsh Language Competency Framework for Education Practitioners and to design learning materials to support student teachers and their schools. As such, the ability to work through the medium of Welsh is highly desirable for this role. You will work closely with student teachers, school partners and others to ensure the quality and delivery of the programme pan-Wales via online distance education tuition.

Skills and experience

You will have extensive experience of school teaching and will hold QTS. You will have strong knowledge of teacher education. You will be aware of and keen to participate actively in supporting student teachers to teach the Curriculum for Wales and other initiatives in teaching. Ideally you will also be research active or will have the potential to become so via an EdD. You should demonstrate your aptitude for being or becoming an inspiring online distance education teacher.

What you get in return

We have a strong commitment to providing training and development in and beyond your current role. This includes thorough induction into the organisation and regular reviews of your training and development needs.

We also offer a great range of benefits that support our employees and their families for the long term. Staff Benefits include an attractive pension proposition and 33 days holiday per annum pro rata, plus Bank Holidays and Christmas closure days.
