The University of Buckingham is among the fifteen smallest in the UK and is rightly proud of its distinctive features, namely: it is the only private University in the UK with a Royal Charter; secondly, it pioneered the first accelerated (two-year) degree; and finally, it provides students with a personalised learning experience through its small-group academic tutorial system and exceptional pastoral care provision.

A position has arisen in our busy Wellbeing, Skills and Diversity department based at our Buckingham Campus, to compliment and strengthen the service already being offered.

This role is situated within the Wellbeing, Skills and Diversity (WSD) department which provides person-centred wellbeing support to students who are experiencing difficulties with university life. The range of services provided by WSD include:

  • Wellbeing and Disability Support
  • Mentor Support
  • Mental Health and Counselling
  • Therapy dogs

A student counsellor is an experienced professional who will assess the needs of existing students who may present with a range of mental health conditions that counselling may be effective for and to ensure that counselling support can make a positive difference to students’ health and wellbeing by being an integral part of the Wellbeing Skills and Diversity Team. Working closely with students, at the university a student counsellor will endeavour to make a student's time and journey successful by ensuring all students have the best chance to complete their studies successfully.

The successful applicant will have experience of working in the counselling field and be accredited to the BACP or equivalent. The post also demands they are educated to degree level or equivalent and have relevant qualifications in this area.

Informal enquiries are welcome to Dee Bunker Head of WSD or Pascale Atkins Team Leader Counselling at Email dee.bunker@buckingham.ac.uk or pascale.atkins@buckingham.ac.uk

The closing date for applications is 12th June 2024

It is anticipated that interviews will be held shortly after the closing date.
