University of Bath - Student Support and Safeguarding

Location: Bath
Salary: Starting from £37,099, rising to £44,263 pro rata
Hours: Part Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 11th June 2024
Closes: 25th June 2024
Job Ref: CC11804

The Department of Student Support and Safeguarding wish to appoint a Team Leader on a part-time basis for a fixed-term period of 12 months.

The Team Leader (Disability Support) is responsible for leading the University’s Disability Support Team, which coordinates the support recommended for disabled students at Bath.

About the role

You will oversee relationships with external partners and agencies to arrange Non-Medical Help (NHM) for students, for example support workers such as Mentors and Study Skills Tutors, working to ensure that support is timely, effective, and easy to access. The team manages enquiries from students and support workers, including complex cases and students at risk, and works behind-the-scenes on complex processes that will improve the student experience of NMH at Bath. You will be responsible for financial management of the disability support process (such as the oversight of invoices for NMH) and will both analyse and provide data linked to this area of disability support. The team also runs the University’s Campus Buddies Scheme and Beginning at Bath pre-arrival event.

You will also undertake a variety of projects which all seek to improve the experience of disabled students at Bath. Recent examples include, leading the dissemination of the annual DSUK survey at Bath, leading on an APP-funded research project with TASO to evaluate university transition for autistic students, and running a tender process to seek bidders to provide our university-funded NMH support.

This is a varied and interesting role which has significant impact on the disabled student experience at Bath. You will be joining a small, hardworking and friendly team, and will work closely with the Team Leader (Disability Advice) and the Deputy Director (Student Access and Advice).

About you

You will need to be an experienced team leader with the ability to lead and work effectively within a small team setting. You will need experience of balancing varied and competing priorities and have excellent time management skills.

As Team Leader, you will lead on very different types of work. You will need excellent attention to detail and experience of process development and improvement to run the core responsibilities of the team. You will possess strong communication skills to enable you to work on complex student cases with colleagues across the Department and University, and to maintain positive relationships with external agencies providing NMH. You will also need the creativity and interpersonal skills required to lead our student-facing events and strong organisation required to organise these.

Further information

This is a part-time role, working 21.9 hours (0.6 fte) on a fixed-term basis for 12 months starting from September 2024, and could be offered as a secondment opportunity.
