We are seeking a high performing individual with a track record of success in working with a large and diverse range of stakeholders and customers.  The postholder will be responsible for supporting the implementation of structural, organisational and cultural change within the function to enhance performance and standards. You will embed process and reporting protocols to ensure the continued delivery of standards and quality services. Central to this, is the need to support our five Academic Faculties with teaching and research requirements. You will also have delegated responsibility for leading on a range of highly specialised and business critical activities crucial to the success of the University, whilst also providing key stakeholders across the University with the assurance and confidence in regard to statutory maintenance and compliance. This is an active, occasionally physical role requiring the successful candidate to be able to attend University sites across the city, and further afield to manage and deliver excellent service.

The Department of Estates and Facilities Management at the University of Sheffield is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the University's Estate, managing its property and facilities and procuring new buildings.

The University's estate contains a wide and varied range of properties which understandably present their own challenges. Some, such as the Arts Tower, are of great architectural importance and must be preserved as part of our national heritage, whilst others such as the newly opened Wave operate with sophisticated technology to ensure their carbon credentials as the University strives to deliver net zero education and research.

Engineering and Maintenance forms a key part of the Estates and Facilities Management function with the Head of Engineering and Maintenance working alongside the Heads of Estates Development, Campus Services and Property and Business Services to deliver a world class integrated Estates service that supports and enhances the University’s vision, mission and identity.

The Engineering and Maintenance function is delivered by a hybrid approach, with around 140 staff including engineers, and in-house trade staff across all 3 disciplines. Where required this bolstered by the use of external contractors to deliver specialist elements of work. The function is embarking on a period of transformation, seeking the most efficient and cost effective combinations of services and organising them to ensure the provision of proactive, high quality, high value services to the University.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills, building on a culture of service excellence and improvement. You will be able to demonstrate strategic thinking and how to deliver services in the most efficient, effective and customer focused manner.  You will develop and maintain relationships with internal customers and stakeholders

This a significant role in delivering service excellence to support academic services in a leading Russell Group university.  You will play a key role in delivering the ongoing success in EFM to achieve these goals and objectives.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
