St Catherine’s College proposes to appoint a Stipendiary Lecturer in Computer Science, with effect from 1 October 2024. The Lecturership will be for two years in the first instance to cover a teaching buy-out.
In the first year of the appointment, the Lecturer will be expected to teach three weighted hours a week averaged over the three terms (twenty-four weeks) of the academic teaching year (the College operates a weighting system whereby hours spent teaching groups larger than one person count for more than one hour). In the second year, they will be expected to teach two weighted hours a week. College teaching is in small groups (usually two to a maximum of four students). The post-holder will be responsible for teaching two courses, depending on student numbers, from the courses Artificial Intelligence, Computer-Aided Formal Verification, Computational Complexity, Machine Learning or Computer Security to second- and third-year undergraduates.
In addition, as a member of the team of Computer Science tutors, the post-holder will be expected to play a full role in the running of Computer Science in the College, including arranging tuition in Computer Science, participating in the admissions process, setting and marking College examinations, and taking a role in the pastoral care of undergraduates.
Informal enquiries about the tutorial teaching requirements may be made to Dr Christoph Haase (email: christoph.haase@stcatz.ox.ac.uk).
The annual stipend for three terms is currently £7,622 for a three-hour Stipendiary Lecturer and £5,081 for a two-hour Stipendiary Lecturer, and is pensionable. The Lecturer will be a member of the Senior Common Room and will be entitled, free of charge, to one lunch and two dinners per week during term-time and during the admissions exercise in December. Teaching/seminar rooms are available for booking within College.
