In a period of burgeoning global and national demand for advanced neuroscience research and education, we are seeking to appoint an experienced researcher and leader in the field of neuroscience, with a special interest in movement disorders.
The University of Liverpool has pioneered impactful research in health and life sciences for 130 years. In our REF 2021 submission, our research in Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience was placed joint first in the UK for our world-leading (4*) environment and ranked in the top 10 in the UK for Research Power. The new Chair will be based in an institute and department consistent with the interests of the successful candidate.
Supported by a generous endowment from the Peter Johnson Foundation and by The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust, the only dedicated neuroscience trust in the UK, the role holder will also hold an honorary clinical position at The Walton Centre.
The work of the University and the Trust will intersect at the newly established Liverpool Neuroscience Centre (LiNC), which has been set up as a world-leading centre for transnational and clinical neuroscience. By building upon the existing strengths and a proven track record of both institutions, LiNC is poised to initiate a transformative improvement in health outcomes for people with neurological conditions and solidify Liverpool's reputation as a standout leader in this crucial field.
Strong candidates will have a sustained and continuing record of excellence in a clinical academic post which has contributed to the advancement of knowledge in Neurology and will be highly recognised both nationally and internationally. They will be enthusiastic and inspiring, with the ability to galvanise staff and establish a distinctive research group at Liverpool. Collaborative and inclusive working is essential across the University, The Walton Centre and beyond.
