Location: College Lane, Hatfield
In partnership with the South East Physics Network (SEPnet), the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Maths (PAM), and the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science (SPECS), seek to appoint an outreach and public engagement (OPE) manager to facilitate our outreach and public engagement agenda.
Main duties and responsibilities:
You will the lead the delivery of the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Maths Outreach and Public Engagement Strategy 2020-2025 and beyond (0.5 FTE), and support OPE efforts across SPECS (0.5 FTE). This includes: leading our outreach activities in local and regional schools; overseeing evaluation of PAM’s school outreach programme ensuring quality and effectiveness; planning and managing PAM research led public engagement events; advising and supporting SPECS staff on how to develop, run and evaluate impactful methods of engaging different audiences with their research; managing and training the team of PAM outreach assistants. Skills and experience required
This role requires strong interpersonal skills, excellent organisational and administrative skills, as well as the ability to plan, organise and prioritise workloads in a busy environment and to meet agreed deadlines. You will be able to develop innovative, creative and engaging sessions for a range of publics. You will have previously worked with children or young adults in a physics/STEM context, and will have organised and delivered outreach or public engagement projects in physics/STEM.
Qualifications required
BSc or equivalent/higher degree in physics and/or astronomy or have equivalent experience is essential for this role.
