About the role:
Are you interested in developing new ways to take technology from the lab to real-world applications? Creating solutions (and not just technology) requires that we understand how to integrate technology into the context of use and cultivate stakeholder acceptance of the technology. This project will build on insights from behavioural science to further new methods for engaging stakeholders and developing technology to be used in context. An ideal candidate would be a design researcher with interest in behavioural design methods and technology integration.
The work will be led by Dr Weston Baxter with strong collaboration within and beyond the university including a close working relationship with ProtonDx who is developing the technology and partners in Electrical Engineering and Infectious Disease.
Together, we seek to accelerate the integration of technology and human behaviour to deliver real solutions. This project will use novel methods to engage stakeholders to help develop the technology for its intended context. Candidates with design research experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
What you would be doing:
The main responsibilities of the role include fieldwork (observations and interviews) with stakeholders, interfacing with partners, co-design activities, informing the design of technology and design method development. As such, we would particularly like to hear from you if you have experience in behavioural science, behavioural design, design theory and methodology, codesign, engineering design and or other related topics.
You will be part of the Interaction Foundry – an interdisciplinary research group working on behavioural design methods and applications – and will work closely with several other research groups throughout Imperial and beyond on a novel health diagnostic application.
What we are looking for:
The Research Associate will be expected to engage in independent research, to lead stakeholder engagement and fieldwork activities, to work closely with all partners and to disseminate the work through scientific publications, conference presentations, seminars and broader outreach. The Research Associate is also expected to join broader research group meetings and discussions and take an active role in helping develop other members of the research team.
What we can offer you:
The appointment comes with a salary between £43,003 - £51,885 depending on experience. Those with a PhD or extensive practical experience would be appointed at the higher research associate rates.
