Achieve your scholarly aspirations and grow your leadership as the Matthew Abel Chair in Financial Accounting. The University of Auckland Business School (UABS) has a long-standing relationship with Matthew Abel who recognises the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to society through academic philanthropy. He has endowed this chair to ensure we continue to lead the discipline of accounting internationally through cutting edge research and teaching.

You will help to invigorate and inspire academic staff and students in the Department of Accounting and Finance, contributing to their growth and continued success. Joining an impressive cohort with strengths in quantitative financial accounting, you will establish new areas of research expertise, with industry-alignment of particular interest.

You will cement the Business School’s reputation for developing and disseminating relevant, world-class knowledge and practices, fostering cooperation, collaboration and communication among academic researchers and educators as well as government and industry practitioners.

In addition to a strong record of scholarship and a continuing programme of individual and team-based research and supervision the preferred candidate will demonstrate:

  • Future-focused vision for the broad discipline of accounting and the impact this can have.
  • Specialist interests may include financial or management accounting or audit.
  • Enthusiasm and energy for building opportunities and capturing synergies from disciplinary and interdisciplinary research and teaching programmes.
  • Commitment to growing the discipline, mentoring and developing our highly motivated academic staff.
  • There is opportunity for those interested to explore leadership opportunities within the Department and Business School.

The Department (QS #56 by subject Accounting and Finance) is one of seven in our Business School. It has a well-developed research culture, the teaching program is strong and innovative and the quality of teaching, as judged by student evaluations and peer review, is high. As a full or associate professor you will teach UG, PG and post-experience students, alongside research student supervision.
