JOB PURPOSE
Reporting directly to the Academic Dean, the Head of Applied Theology will be responsible for the development, delivery and management of the Vocational and HE Programmes for Chaplaincy and Spiritual Formation, in addition to other programmes developed under this faculty, maintaining a standard of excellence across the full range of service and product delivery.
MA Spiritual Formation Programme Key Tasks
To be responsible for the structure, delivery and management of the Spiritual Formation programme. Responsibilities include:
Lead the Spiritual Formation Programme, reviewing, maintaining and developing the programme;
Act as link tutor to the Universities in accordance with their guidance on Link Tutor responsibilities;
Maintain the integrity and ethos of the Waverley Integrative Framework o Assist Waverley Abbey College as required in its annual budget process, keeping spending commitments in line with Waverley Abbey College’s agreed budget;
Establish and maintain fair systems for student assessments, including:
Initial selection of students, taking due account of standards and admission procedures;
Maintaining standards in grading; and
Ensuring tutorial support and oversight of students’ personal development.
To support, encourage, develop and manage the tutorial team for Spiritual Formation, assisting tutors to deliver courses to the highest standard. Responsibilities include:
selection of Module Leaders and team tutors, in consultation with the Academic Dean & Vice Principal;
selection of other associates (visiting lecturers, retreat leaders); and
continued oversight of tutors and associates, including team-building and individual appraisal and feedback;
Vocational Programme Key Tasks
To be responsible for the structure, delivery and management of the Vocational Non-HE programmes, for example Contemporary Chaplaincy and the Association of Waverley Abbey Ministers. Responsibilities include:
Lead the Vocational Programmes, reviewing, maintaining and developing the programme structures, content and relevance to market demand;
Maintain the integrity and ethos of the Waverley Integrative Framework
Assist Waverley Abbey College as required in its annual budget process, keeping spending commitments in line with Waverley Abbey College’s agreed budget;
To support, encourage, develop and manage the tutorial team for Vocational courses, assisting tutors to deliver courses to the highest standard. Responsibilities include:
selection of Facilitators and Support tutors, in consultation with the Academic Dean & Vice Principal;
selection of other associates (visiting lecturers, seminar leaders); and
continued oversight of tutors and associates, including team-building and individual appraisal and feedback
To oversee recruitment of chaplaincy students, as well as students for other vocational courses;
To speak at conferences and to promote Applied Theology programmes and courses
Liaison with the Association of Waverley Abbey Minister’s (AWAM) to signpost students for affiliation;
Line Management Responsibilities
Line manage the Deputy Head of Chaplaincy;
Line manage the MASF Deputy Programme Leader
Oversee line management of other tutors within the faculty in consultation with the Deputy Head of Counselling, and the MASF Deputy Programme Leader.
General Tasks
Assistance with recruitment initiatives that facilitate student number growth;
Liaising with Marketing and other departments on college open days, webinars and other promotional initiatives:
Production of regular reports as required;
Contribution to the broader life of the college and Trust.
