The Senior Technician will be responsible for the management of Biomedical Science Research labs. This includes responsibility for running the Facility for Omics Research and also the responsibility for the procurement and installation of all equipment and consumables for three new Biomedical Science Research labs due for completion Summer 2025. Once the labs are established, you will be responsible for their day-to-day management e.g. training all researchers via lab inductions, supervising PhD students in the labs, carrying out research, applying for external funding for equipment, ensuring Health and Safety COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) assessments and protocols are up to date and adhered to by the researchers, ordering consumables and equipment, organising hazardous and offensive waste disposal, liaising with suppliers and service engineers etc.
Working closely with academics and members of technical team you will provide specialist support relating to research activities. You will be part of our technical team responsible for the maintenance, operation and health and safety of college equipment, working across several laboratories with a high degree of autonomy. You will be able to provide full technical support to post graduate students and staff including training and advice on the appropriate use of resources.

About You
The successful candidate should have a good degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and have demonstrable experience of providing technical support in Biomedical Sciences in a Higher Education research environment. You will have knowledge and experience of using and maintaining equipment used in research, allied to biomedical science to be able to support students effectively. Knowledge and experience of working in cell culture and molecular research labs, and knowledge of all aspects of histology slide making, as well as teaching these techniques to researchers, is essential.
