About the Role
For informal enquiries, please contact James Covington (Professor) at J.A.Covington@warwick.ac.uk.
This is a full time fixed-term contract to finish no later 31st May 2026. There is a possibility of future funding beyond this date, either in this research area or a related project.
We are seeking a Research Fellow or Assistant Professor (Research) to support an Innovate UK funded agricultural project in collaboration with industrial and research partners. The overall goal of the project is to develop new means to detect crop infection in UK stores, focussing on onions and potatoes, with Warwick’s contribution being the development of a sensing system to be used in UK stores to detect the first signs of infection and to warn the farmer.
You will join our dynamic team who are analysing odours from samples and developing sensor systems for a broad range of applications and working with a wide range of industrial partners.
This role will assist in undertaking an analysis of odours associated with crop infection, contributing to the development of a chemical sensing unit and then testing and evaluating the unit in both laboratory and crop storage environments. The successful candidate will also be responsible for some project management activities, including communication with project partners, attendance at meetings, preparation of documentation and delivering presentations.
This post is based at the University of Warwick (in the BioMedical Sensors Lab at the School of Engineering, www.warwick.ac.uk/go/bsl), however the successful candidate will be required to make trips to the project partners, who are based between Cambridge to Lincolnshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone previously researching in the analytical sciences or sensors and sensor systems to get industrial experience in developing a real product.
We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.
Closing date: Thursday 19th September 2024 at 11:55 pm
