About the role
The Department of Mathematics of UCL invites applications from outstanding candidates for two posts of Lecturer in Pure Mathematics. Specifically, the responsibilities of the new appointment will include:
• Carrying out and disseminating research in pure mathematics, including supervising PhD students and generating income to support research, and seeking to maximise the impact of the research
• Teaching and supporting teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level
• Supporting the administrative and management roles of the department, including furthering our progress in equality, diversity and inclusion.
These posts are available from 1 September 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. Salary, dependent on qualifications and experience, will be on the UCL scale Grade 8, point 38-44: £51,474- £60,521 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. About you
The successful candidates will have a developing track record of independent research excellence in pure mathematics of international standing. They are expected to have experience in the teaching of mathematics at university level and excellent oral and written communication skills, and to make a real commitment to supporting all students and colleagues.
Essential
• A PhD or equivalent qualification in pure mathematics or a closely related discipline
• A developing record of international research excellence and publishing in pure mathematics
• A record of presenting mathematics research at national and international conferences, meetings and/or workshops
• Teaching experience in mathematics, together with a commitment to excellence in teaching
• The ability to teach using remote working technologies
• Experience of running research projects in mathematics where opportunities have existed
• A commitment to work collaboratively, fairly and equitably with colleagues in different roles and from different backgrounds
