A highly creative person is required for the role of Materials Technician within the Department of Design and Architecture. We are seeking a candidate with an excellent understanding of constructed textiles, specifically across knit and weave, who has current knowledge of the textile industry and creative textiles practice.
As Materials Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance, support and demonstration of the constructed textiles facilities, together with the support of teaching across our dynamic mix of Fashion and Textiles courses which include BA/BSc (Hons) Textiles, BA (Hons) Fashion, BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing, and BA (Hons) Costume with Textiles.
You will support the Course Leader and wider technical team in the delivery of technical demonstrations and operation of the facilities across the department. You will also be expected to assist in promotional and recruitment activities and undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post that might be required.
We are looking for a creative textile practitioner, who is able to promote high quality learning and teaching across a broad spectrum of innovation in constructed textiles, enabling the production of traditional, hand and digital approaches for constructed textile design. You will have an in depth understanding of knit and weave, ideally with knowledge of relevant CAD packages. You will be educated to a degree-level within a textiles-related discipline or hold relevant professional experience.
