Role
The Rowing Coach will lead an engaged and committed small group of rowers. Predominately coaching along the Soar, in the centre of Leicester. This is a section of canalised river which is shared use with our neighbours, Leicester Rowing Club. The club range from complete beginners through to talented rowers with aspirations of medals at BUCS events and qualifying for Henley. The club focusses on sculling, with some sweep. The role will also be expected to conduct minor repairs on the fleet of boats. There will be a focus to deliver to the needs of the student club, whilst supporting sport development colleagues to target underrepresented communities within our student body and work to close attainment gaps.
The role is on a part-time, delivering 22 hours a week for 32 weeks of the year. There will be times when the position is the only DMU staff member on site.
Ideal Candidate
To be successful, you will be passionate about the delivering inclusive rowing sessions. Supporting beginners from a wide socioeconomic background through to university rowers who have prior experience of club rowing. You’ll understand the needs and motivations of university students.
An individual who thrives in supporting others to develop, with a key focus on supporting young people to thrive in rowing and their academic studies. The individual must have an understanding and demonstration of safeguarding in a university setting. You will have the opportunity to develop professionally and demonstrate direct impact on the student experience.
