The University of Sydney welcomes applications for an Associate Professor/Professor in Architectural Design (Education Focused) in the Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning.
The Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning is the oldest of its kind in Australia and for over 100 years has been leading the way in teaching and research in built and digital environments. Our educators and researchers strive for intellectual excellence, creative thinking and evidence-based research. They are experimental, imaginative, and critical in innovating at the boundaries of their disciplines and creating exciting and engaging learning experiences for students.
With the introduction of the new University of Sydney Enterprise Agreement 2023-26, the University has committed to establishing and advertising new continuing education-focused academic positions. The positions are for talented educators with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, teaching, curriculum design, educational practice and innovation, as well as research capability (in disciplinary and/or education-related research). This newly recruited group of educators are recognised both internationally and within the university for their expertise in educational delivery and will support an uplift in the teaching capability and student experience at the University of Sydney.

The Associate Professor/Professor in Architectural Design (Education Focused) dedicates the majority of their contribution to teaching and teaching-related activities (up to 70%), with a minimum of 20% research and 10% governance, service, and engagement. Additionally, you will mentor junior academics, providing advice on teaching methodologies, education research approaches, publications, and career advancement.
The role will drive pedagogical advancements, requiring commitment to research and scholarship in educational methodologies, technology, and pedagogical approaches within architecture to deliver high quality educational experiences and outcomes. It is geared towards scholars deeply engaged with teaching and learning of architecture committed to playing a pivotal role in education leadership, guiding the School, Faculty and University in strategic planning and setting educational goals.
The role will also participate in communities of practice with other education focused roles in the discipline, School, and University. Through engagement with industry and employers, the role will lead understanding and responsiveness to market trends.
About you
You will be recognised internationally as a leading expert in educational design and delivery, with a notable track record for enhancing student outcomes, pioneering educational innovations, and contributing to respected research in the field. You will have fostered deep partnerships within Architecture and be able to integrate these partnerships into curriculum and student learning.

Term and remuneration
The successful candidate will be offered a continuing position on a full-time basis and will be offered a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
