The Opportunity:
We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our referral veterinary and teaching hospital where we have a great team of vets, nurses and assistants who are all committed to animal health and welfare. This is a demanding out of hours role and requires dedication, proactivity, flexibility, a resilient work ethic and a strong belief in delivering the highest standard of patient care.
Shifts are 8pm-8.30am working 4 shifts on and 8 shifts off in a rolling pattern. Rolling staff are required to cover for annual leave in their pods, accruing paid overtime for additional shift cover.
You will work in our out of hours team, covering 4 night shifts on, and then having 8 nights off. You will be expected to help cover for the other night RVNs holidays and other periods of absence, accruing paid overtime for any additional hours worked. The shifts are 12.5 hours long; with one hour of paid lunch.
You will be required to work a share of the public holidays over the Christmas period, should your shifts fall on those dates.
Even though this is a night-based position, we offer a full 6-8 week training programme where you will shadow our friendly and experienced staff to learn the ropes. Initial training shifts will routinely be based Monday-Friday working 8:30am-5pm, all additional hours worked above salaried hours will be paid as overtime.
We have a dedicated night team who cover 365 days, allowing us to provide 24/7 care to our patients. Our night nurse roles cover everything from ward-based patients, including felines, canines, and exotics as well as our intermediate and emergency & critical care service. You may help with surgeries or endoscopies that run out of hours; therefore this is a fantastic opportunity to potentially learn new skills.
We have three canine wards, four exotics wards, one feline ward, two isolation units, an emergency room as well as our dedicated, continually staffed Intermediate Care and Intensive Care Wards. We provide the highest level of care to our patients around the clock with life-threatening conditions as well as more routine cases.
