Cambridge University Library (the UL) is one of the world's oldest university libraries - and home to one of the world's great collections of cultural treasures and research materials.

We are seeking to recruit a Security Assistant (Asset Protection) to join our Library team. The role of the Facilities Security Assistant (Asset Protection) is designed to cover a range of support interventions for facilities management (FM) and University Library staff.  A strong team player, you will typically have a primary key skill (e.g. Reception, Security) but will also possess skills and knowledge to help with a number of other tasks across the team.

Reporting to the Facilities Management Security Supervisor, you will be responsible for carrying out a number of security, administrative and risk management tasks, as well as being a member of the department's emergency response team in times of disaster such as flooding or fire.

You will be an important member of the FM workforce taking on a variety of duties to ensure the building is properly secured and the safety of staff and visitors is maintained.

It is important that the service is flexibly staffed during Library opening hours so that both staff and readers can always expect appropriate levels of support. The role will also work within our affiliated libraries to assist with projects and to occasionally assist when required.

The post holder will be required to work 36.5 hours per week as part of a flexible rota, covering the following hours:-

  • 06:00 to 19:30 Monday to Friday (This will be extended to 22:15 during the Easter term)
  • 06:00 to 17:15 Saturday
  • Occasional bank holidays and out of hours event support may be required

You will be expected to engage with training and development opportunities from the outset. Good communication and basic IT skills are essential as well as demonstrable experience of adhering to the highest standards in Health and Safety, respect for diversity and dignity at work.
