The School of Social & Political Sciences at the University of Glasgow is seeking to make a strategically important Professorial appointment in the Division of Sociological and Cultural Studies in the Subject Group of Media and Cultural Studies. The School has an expanding research programme in these key areas of thematic priority, which includes a range of projects and collaborations across the School and wider institution. Our overarching vision in the School is to address the major social and political challenges of our time. We prioritise enrichment & empowerment for young people & disadvantaged communities; dialogue & mutual understanding across societies and cultures; international engagement & collaboration and recognising & responding to our legacies in how we work & study.
The successful candidate will play a senior leadership role in the School by conducting externally-funded internationally-leading social science research, delivering research-led education and demonstrating excellence in teaching to support the strategic objectives and priorities of the School/College in line with the University’s ambitions. They will have extensive experience of supporting colleagues, building networks and delivering positive social change through impact on policy and practice.
They will also contribute to the delivery and development of taught provision in their area of expertise, where we prioritise transforming student’s understanding and engagement of complex social and political problems and giving them the tools to make a positive difference to society. This includes the development of placement and internship opportunities for students to enhance engagement and employability, working with key research partners in the private, public and social sectors.
