The role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Histology Technician in the School of Veterinary Medicine, supporting our continually growing research community. (this is a fixed term part tine (25.2 hours/week) contract of up to 12 months)
Working within a team of technical staff, you will be responsible for routinely providing technical support for the Veterinary Pathology Centres laboratories, providing Histopathology Services and Clinical pathology technical support in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Surrey. You will provide technical support principally to anatomic pathologists, undergraduate Students and researchers.
About you
Previous technical experience in Histopathology is essential. Key to the role, you must have experience in scientific laboratory-based practice to include histological processing, microtome sectioning and staining techniques. Previous experience of Immunohistochemistry, Cryostat and Clinical Pathology is desirable. You will provide advice and solutions for routine day-to-day problems arising in your areas of expertise and make recommendations for improvements in the efficiency of the service.
Working within University guidelines and procedures, you will bring a solid understanding of relevant health and safety requirements of a Histology Facility, instructing and demonstrating safe working practices on the use of specialist equipment.
We are looking for a highly motivated, organised technician to join the school of veterinary medicine, who is eager to learn new skills within the pathology team and who has a good understanding of the importance of quality assurance within diagnostic services.
