The Division of Health Research (DHR) within Lancaster University’s Faculty of Health and Medicine is seeking to appoint a Trial Manager (Mental Health Research), to work as part of the Spectrum Centre for Mental Health Research (Spectrum).
Spectrum conducts innovative research to develop better support for people living with bipolar experiences and their relatives. All research is conducted in partnership with people with lived experience. Spectrum team takes an active approach to implementation to influence clinical practice See https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/health-and-medicine/research/spectrum/
This is a great opportunity in a new NIHR funded Health and Technology Assessment research trial, led by Professor Steven Jones, to evaluate the clinical and cost effectiveness of a digital intervention for parents with bipolar and their children. It will test whether the intervention improves child emotional and behaviour outcomes and parenting and parent clinical outcomes. It will also assess cost effectiveness.
You will have a leading role in planning, co-ordinating the trial. Excellent communication and presentation skills, together with the ability to organise and motivate and supervise others are needed. You will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, and strong organisational skills and will provide strategic, tactical and operational management skills.
You must have at least a degree level qualification in a relevant discipline and experience of conducting research using clinical trial designs with recruitment and retention targets. You will need to be competent in quantitative methods of data collection and analysis. Ideally, you will have a master’s degree level in a relevant area. Experience of working collaboratively in clinical trial management with large multi-disciplinary research teams, and service users/relatives, clinicians and service providers, would be a definite advantage. We are looking for a self-directed and committed individual with an interest in becoming a key part of our research team.
The Faculty provides an environment that strongly supports the individual needs of each employee, promoting a healthy work-life balance. We are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies on an individual basis, as well as the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education.
The position is available for immediate start and we are open to discussing flexible working arrangements including job share, working week and days/hours worked, flexible start and finish times or condensed hours.
You will join us on an indefinite contract however the role remains contingent on external funding which at this time is due to come to an end on 31st March 2026.
