Are you an early career researcher looking for your first challenge? Do you have a background in electric power systems and microgrids? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities?
As a Research Fellow in Railway Microgrids, you will join an exciting consortium to accelerate the journey to railway decarbonisation by developing multi-energy hubs for, potentially, as many as over 2,500 stations and depots across the UK. You will be improving efficiency and supporting battery trains, while offering greater flexibility to support both rail and grid operation. The project will demonstrate for the first time a new microgrid solution to deliver creative, predictable, and cost-effective use of power on the railway while offering flexibility services to the power grid. These microgrids will also connect to local renewable energy sources to power trains.
We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
