Role Summary
The laboratory of Professor G.S. Besra at the University of Birmingham is looking for a skilled Post-Doctoral Research Associate with experience in molecular synthesis and organic chemistry in order to tackle the synthesis of CD1/iNKT-relevant ligands, inhibitors, tagged-molecules and labelled-substrates, for immunological and detailed mode-of-action studies in variety of disease-states. They will develop techniques related to the project in organic synthesis, in particular the synthesis of carbohydrate and lipid antigens. As a consequence, they will need a solid grounding in chemical biology and organic chemical synthesis.
Person Specification
The post holder will hold a PhD (or near to completion) in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, with practical experience in a wide range of organic synthesis, including carbohydrate and lipid synthesis, and associated purification and analytical techniques. They will be able to demonstrate significant problem-solving skills, and have experience of synthetic planning and compound design. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively complex information and prioritise their workload and show strong attention to detail.
