Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Babraham Institute - Immunology

Location: Cambridge
Salary: £37,364 to £44,641 per annum (depending on number of years experience)
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 31st October 2024
Closes: 13th November 2024

The Babraham Institute is a charity which is world renowned for its research in life sciences to enhance lives and improve wellbeing.

The overarching research goal of the Kai-Michael Toellner lab is to understand how B lymphocytes differentiate and interact in responses to vaccines or pathogens and how this leads to the generation of protective antibodies and long-term immune memory.

We are looking to welcome a new post-doctoral scientist to our team, to work on signals that regulate the activation and selection of germinal centre B cells in immunity and tolerance. We will explore signals leading to B cell anergy in a new mouse model with enhanced B cell receptor signalling. This strain, developed through a BBSRC Industrial Partnership Award, will be used to explore how protection from autoimmunity is induced, how it may be broken, and how this leads to the development of various autoimmune diseases.

This work is part of a successful BBSRC project and builds on previous published work from our laboratory: https://www.babraham.ac.uk/our-research/immunology/kai-michael-toellner/publications

The projects will use a wide variety of cellular and molecular immunology techniques. We are particularly interested in recruiting someone with experience in immunohistology, multicolour flow cytometry, imaging (two- photon intravital imaging, confocal, whole tissue imaging with light sheet microscopy), single cell RNA sequencing and analysis, and/or bioinformatics. We do not expect an individual candidate to be proficient in all of these in order to be appointed and are looking to appoint people with complementary skills to the three available positions.

This is a limited term appointment with funding for this post expected to be available for a period of three years in first instance.

Informal enquiries can be addressed to Kai-Michael Toellner,  kai.toellner@babraham.ac.uk

For more information on the work of the group, please visit:  https://www.babraham.ac.uk/our-research/immunology/kai-michael-toellner

Applicants must hold a PhD or have their thesis submitted when commencing the post. Please note that you will be appointed on the starting salary of £34,500 per annum, if you have not yet been awarded your PhD.  All newly appointed postdocs will commence on the salary/scale point that reflects the number of years' post-PhD experience they hold on 30th June in the calendar year they commence employment.

Closing date for applications is Wednesday, 13th November 2024. However, we reserve the right to close the vacancy early depending on the volume of applications received.
