Technician - Operations

Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

To deliver RBG Kew’s mission by managing the research facilities, including the Millenium Seed Bank Building’s Laboratory Facilities, based at Kew’s Wakehurst site. This post is responsible for maintaining and operating facilities and equipment, supporting specialist techniques, providing training to staff, students, and visitors, ordering consumables, and managing budgets and finances. The postholder will interface with and deputise for the other Laboratory Managers across Kew Science, as required. The post holder will work closely with the Research community and leads of business areas, including Estates, visitor operations and other colleagues in the delivery of world class teaching and research infrastructure operations. The role will require a culture of continuous improvement within the operational and research technical team and will entail significant change management. This role is provides interim maternity cover.

The post holder will be a member of the wider Science Services team and will ensure that all operational and Research technical staff are aware of RBG Kew’s strategy to deliver world-class performance as well as an understanding of how their area of work directly supports the achievement of RBG Kew’s Science strategy. The role requires excellent communication and negotiation skills to build and maintain effective collaborative relationships and to ensure the Wakehurst site is networked with all Science directorate and wider RBG Kew’s Science services. It provides services for all other Kew Science Departments in the context of agreed costing and procedures.
