The opportunity:

The Institute of Education, Teaching and Leadership within Moray House School of Education and Sport is inviting applications for a Lecturer in Teacher Education Curriculum/Pedagogy/Assessment (with Drama Subject Specialism). The post is a maternity cover and part-time (17.5 hours/week) and is available as a secondment or fixed-term post on a Teaching and Scholarship track from 1 August 2025 for a period of 1 year.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to sector-leading Teacher Education provision for Moray House School of Education and Sport in the area of secondary education. The post holder will make a significant contribution to the leadership, development and design of teaching, curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment across the Secondary Education curriculum with a core focus on Drama education and will be expected to contribute to Primary education programmes. The post holder will have established research informed practices, scholarship and expertise in one or more of the following areas:  

  • Curriculum development and curriculum making for 21st Century
  • Assessment practices as/for/of learning
  • Pedagogy

The role holder will have lead responsibility for teaching and developing curriculum in Drama and will require appropriate GTCS Registration. 

We welcome applications from candidates who can bring research informed critical understanding of curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and the role of the teacher, and an understanding of key principles of equity, inclusion, social justice and sustainability and their relevance for education, as these are core dimensions of our portfolio.

Candidates will have knowledge and understanding of the Scottish Education system and the Broad and General Education and Senior phase and will be able to refer to research and scholarship in these areas. Post holders on a Teaching and Scholarship track will be expected to plan a continuous programme of scholarship through developing their research and evidence informed practices and knowledge-exchange activities as relevant to role.

The appointee will join the Institute of Education, Teaching and Leadership which has oversight of the School’s portfolio of teacher education.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Being registered as Secondary teacher with the General Teaching Council of Scotland in Drama or relevant cognate area.  Applicants without appropriate Full GTCS registration will not be considered. 
  • Established credibility and significant experience in Drama education, making a demonstrable impact at school, local authority or national level, and/or within Teacher Education in a Higher Education context.  
  • Demonstrate a critical, informed, creative and scholarly capacity to engage with students and work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners. 
  • Demonstrate research informed knowledge, understanding and experience of one or more of following areas: curriculum design, pedagogy, and/or assessment practices.
  • The successful applicant will be required to obtain a Level 2 PVG certificate
