Applications are invited for a Project Scientist to join the Gut Model Facility at Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.

Background: 

We are seeking a Project Scientist to support experiments conducted using in vitro model systems that simulate the conditions of the human intestines. The gut microbiota is complex and estimated to comprise more than 1000 species. At QIB, we have established different in vitro model systems. This is a core facility that will be utilised by different research groups within the Institute. 

The role: 

This position will contribute to fundamental research exploring the impact of the gut microbiome on food and health. The primary purpose of the role is to provide technical support for operating in vitro gut models. The post holder will play a key role in supporting the operation of the colon model facility.

The main duties:
- Operating in vitro gut model systems.
- Supporting researchers using the models for a variety of research projects.
- Maintaining equipment and managing aspects of associated human studies. 

The ideal candidate: 

The successful post holder will be a graduate in biological sciences, microbiology or molecular biology with experience in microbial fermentation technology, and motivation to work on complex microbial communities would be advantageous. 

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £28,550 to £35,500 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time post for an initial contract of 12 months, with the possibility of extension.

The Quadram Institute is a new interdisciplinary research institute dedicated to understanding how food and microbes interact to promote health and prevent disease. Its mission is to deliver healthier lives through innovation in gut health, microbiology and food. A partnership between Quadram Institute Bioscience, the University of East Anglia, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and BBSRC, it brings together scientists and clinicians in a state-of-the-art building on the Norwich Research Park.
