Applications are invited for a Research Associate position to drive a project for 3-years funded by the British Heart Foundation studying the therapeutic benefit of targeting platelet-neutrophil interactions that lead to immunothrombosis in deep vein thrombosis. This work builds upon seminal work from the research group based at City St George’s University of London and Imperial College that identified a novel platelet-neutrophil interaction where human platelets captured via VWF domain under flow are ‘primed’ and in turn recruit neutrophils, triggering neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) formation. It is believed this is an important event driving the initiation of deep vein thrombosis.(Mereweather et al, 2023 and 2025; Contantinescu-Bercu et al 2020) The successful candidate will be expected to drive the generation and analysis of data, to present at conferences, contribute to writing of papers and future grant applications. This is an exciting area of research using an in vitro model of human venous valves and in vivo venous thrombosis models. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong knowledge and research experience in thrombosis and haemostasis, with a creative, positive and flexible mind set to drive the project.

Key attributes of the successful applicant include:

  • BSc and PhD in an appropriate field
  • Experience in thrombosis and haemostasis research
  • Experience with microfluidic technology
  • In vivo expertise recommended
  • Experience with cell culture techniques including primary endothelial cells
  • Experience in expression and purification of proteins
  • Experience with molecular biology and immunocyto/histochemistry
