This full-time, one year, fixed-term lectureship post is available from 1 September 2025, based in Department of Classics, Ancient History, Religion and Theology, with specialism in Roman archaeology and Roman material culture. The post is to cover the teaching of Professor Martin Pitts who has been awarded a 1-year Leverhulme Fellowship and is likely to include teaching at all levels in Roman archaeology and Roman material culture.
The role
You will join a large and dynamic department that offers a range of single and joint-honours programmes in Classics, Classical Studies and Ancient History tailored to students from all backgrounds. Our research is widely recognised for its commitment to interdisciplinarity and engagement with the wider world and we are home to a thriving community of postgraduate students. We seek a colleague who shares our commitment to inspirational teaching, to fostering and amplifying diverse and marginalised voices within Classics and Ancient History, to shaping a more inclusive discipline, and to the benefits that our discipline can bring to the wider world.
You will support the delivery of teaching across a range of programmes within the Department of Classics, Ancient History, Religion and Theology. This will include the design, development and production of teaching and learning material, and the delivery of teaching across a range of ancient history modules up to MA level, especially in Roman archaeology and material culture. This is likely to include the first and second year module ‘Globalisation and the Roman Empire’ (an introduction to the archaeology of the Roman empire); the third year seminar-led module ‘Domination and Resistance in Roman Britain’; and MA level teaching on similar subject matter.
