About the School

The School of International Studies (SIS) at Nanjing University was established in 2021. The SIS is dedicated to excellent research in the fields of world politics, international relations, and national security, and cultivating high-level talents engaging in the practices of international relations. The Faculty of SIS is comprised of PhDs from well-known universities around the world with diversified expertise ranging from international politics, global governance, IPE to cutting-edge IR issues.

The SIS has two departments: the Department of International Politics and the Department of Foreign Affairs; three research platforms: the Collaborative Innovation Center of South China Sea Studies, Huazhi Institute for Global Governance, and Institute for Area Studies; and hosts the Journal of Asia-Pacific Security and Marine Affairs. The SIS has presided over and participated in a number of international cooperation projects and state-level research plans, and established partnerships and collaborations with highly prestigious universities around the world.

Positions

The SIS invites applications of global talents for the tenure-track Associate or Assistant Professor position. The position for exceptionally outstanding high-level talents will be discussed case-by-case.

Applications can apply for any of the following two fields:

  1. Tenure-Track Associate Professor (International Law)
  2. Tenure-Track Assistant Professor (Area Studies)

Qualifications

The applicant should

  1. Commitment to academic teaching and research, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  2. High standards of professional conduct, including adherence to teaching and research ethics; no history of criminal convictions or academic misconduct.
  3. Have a first-rate background in academic training—specifically, a PhD in relevant disciplines, experience in studying and/or working at first-rate teaching and research institutions, and knowledge of the latest international trends and development in the relevant research fields. The applicant for Tenure-Track Associate Professor should have a specialization in international maritime law. Candidates should have a strong academic background in sovereignty disputes and maritime rights issues concerning the South China Sea, East China Sea, and related maritime territories. The applicant for Tenure-Track Assistant Professor should specialize in area studies and have a track record of representative research achievements. Preference will be given to those with overseas study experience.
  4. Proven teaching ability, including the capacity to deliver core and advanced courses effectively. Candidates should be familiar with modern teaching methodologies and possess strong verbal communication skills.
  5. Demonstrated research excellence and potential for continued academic development: a solid record of innovative research with international visibility and a clear and ambitious research agenda.

  2. A detailed CV (in either Chinese or English);
  3. Three representative papers (The representative works submitted for review are generally papers or monographs that have been officially published in journals or have been published online and have DOI numbers);
  4. Other relevant attachments that demonstrate academic achievement.

Compensation Package and Support

  1. An annual salary (to be worked out individually);
  2. A start-up fund for research;
  3. Qualification to supervise graduate students;
  4. The university provides short-term lodging and housing subsidies. Applicants recruited can purchase commercial housing offered by the university at a special discount;
  5. The university provides assistance with children's schooling at the primary and secondary school levels.
