About the role
Are you seeking a senior academic appointment in bioengineering, in a department which is leading the bioengineering agenda both nationally and internationally? If so, then this exciting, challenging and rewarding opportunity may be the next career step for you.
Due to rapid growth and the strategic importance of the discipline of bioengineering at Imperial, the major new translational White City Campus, the flagship Sir Michael Uren Biomedical Engineering Research Hub and a growing focus on sustainability enabled through facilities at the Silwood Park campus, the Department of Bioengineering wishes to appoint up to two outstanding academics at Reader or Professor level. This is an open call: we invite applications from candidates across all areas of bioengineering, highlighting those that are synergistic with Imperial research centres in our new translational campus:
Imperial is one of the world’s leading engineering focused universities and its mission is to achieve enduring excellence in both research and education, and we are committed to making life changing advancements for the benefit of society. The Department of Bioengineering is committed to this mission through advancing the frontiers of our knowledge, translating that knowledge for societal benefit, and educating leaders in the discipline’s three main areas:
In the most recent national research assessment, REF 2021, 95% of our Department's unit of assessment was judged either world leading or internationally excellent. We are committed to building on this success through the recruitment of talented academic staff. Further information on our exciting research activities can be found on our website: www.imperial.ac.uk/bioengineering
We welcome applications from under-represented groups such as female applicants.
What you would be doing
You will develop a broad range of research in your discipline, leading or contributing to a research area at the highest scientifically rigorous levels. You will apply for research funding and manage the resources (including where relevant a research team) of successful grants.
You will teach and examine courses at all levels (undergraduate, MSc and PhD degrees) through lectures, seminars, tutorials, coursework and personal supervision. You will plan and review your own approach to teaching as well as contributing to the development of the department’s curriculum and its teaching and assessment methods.
You will be presented with opportunities to contribute to the wider strategic goals of the department, faculty and university through administrative or leadership responsibilities, attending relevant committees or providing representation at internal or external meetings and working groups.
Full information on duties, responsibilities and criteria for the post can be found in the Job Description.
