About the School

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Nanjing University is one of the oldest and the most reputable institutes of sociology and neighboring disciplines in China. Currently, consisting of 44 high-quality academics and hundreds of talented graduate and undergraduate students from all over China, the School is still evaluated as a top-ranking institute by all kinds of academic performance review. Now, the School has decided to strengthen its expertise in computational social science, visual sociology/anthropology, and integrated psychology in the next five years. In addition, the School is aspiring to broaden its intellectual scope to reach foreign societies and cultures. 

Positions

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Nanjing University plans to recruit Assistant Professor. Specific fields of research open for recruitment are:

  1. Sociology
  2. Social/Cultural Anthropology
  3. Demography
  4. Social work and Social policy
  5. Psychology 

Qualifications

The applicant should

  1. Commitment to academic teaching and research, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  2. High standards of professional conduct, including adherence to teaching and research ethics; no history of criminal convictions or academic misconduct.
  3. Strong academic background: Ph.D. in a closely related field. Candidates should have experience studying and working in leading research institutions, with a demonstrated record of academic excellence.
    • For tenure-track Assistant Professor roles, ideally, at least two years of postdoctoral research experience.
    • For tenure-track Associate Professor roles, ideally, at least four years of postdoctoral research experience.
  4. Proven teaching ability, including the capacity to deliver core and advanced courses effectively. Candidates should be familiar with modern teaching methodologies and possess strong verbal communication skills.
  5. Demonstrated research excellence and potential for continued academic development: a solid record of innovative research with international visibility and a clear and ambitious research agenda.

Supporting Materials for Application

  1. Three reference letters;
  2. A detailed CV (in either Chinese or English);
  3. Three representative papers (The representative works submitted for review are generally papers or monographs that have been officially published in journals or have been published online and have DOI numbers);
  4. Other relevant attachments that demonstrate academic achievement.

Compensation Package and Support

  1. An annual salary (to be worked out individually);
  2. A start-up fund for research;
  3. Qualification to supervise graduate students;
  4. The university provides short-term lodging and housing subsidies. Applicants recruited can purchase commercial housing offered by the university at a special discount;
  5. The university provides assistance with children's schooling at primary and secondary school levels.
