College Introduction

The Department of Mathematics at Nanjing University was established in 1921. It is the first modern mathematics department in China. The first dean of the department was Professor Xiong Qinglai. It has gone through the periods of National Southeast University and National Central University. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was renamed the Department of Mathematics at Nanjing University. In July 2024, it was renamed the School of Mathematics at Nanjing University.

Since its establishment, the School of Mathematics of Nanjing University has enjoyed a high reputation both at home and abroad. Our school has always emphasized high-quality talent training and scientific research, and its contribution to China's higher education has been highly recognized, with far-reaching impacts covering multiple mathematical research fields.

Our college attaches great importance to the training of teachers and is committed to creating a relaxed and harmonious atmosphere. In recent years, many teachers have won national awards, including the National Natural Science Award and the Mathematical Frontier Award; almost all members are the main researchers of the China Natural Science Foundation projects.  

Recruitment Position Setting

The School of Mathematics of Nanjing University warmly welcomes young talents in mathematics to join at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.

The research directions for recruitment include:

  1. Basic mathematics
  2. Applied mathematics and computing
  3. Probability and Statistics
  4. Our college always welcomes outstanding mathematical talents in fields other than the above to apply.

Application Requirements

  1. Commitment to academic teaching and research, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  2. High standards of professional conduct, including adherence to teaching and research ethics; no history of criminal convictions or academic misconduct.
  3. Strong academic background: Ph.D. in a closely related field. Candidates should have experience studying and working in leading research institutions, with a demonstrated record of academic excellence.
    1. For tenure-track Assistant Professor roles, ideally, at least two years of postdoctoral research experience.
    2. For tenure-track Associate Professor roles, ideally, at least four years of postdoctoral research experience.
  4. Proven teaching ability, including the capacity to deliver core and advanced courses effectively. Candidates should be familiar with modern teaching methodologies and possess strong verbal communication skills.
  5. Demonstrated research excellence and potential for continued academic development: a solid record of innovative research with international visibility and a clear and ambitious research agenda.

  1. Three letters of recommendation (generally from doctoral supervisors, academic leaders of current work units, and well-known scholars in the field);
  2. Detailed resume (in Chinese and English);
  3. Three representative works (generally papers or monographs that have been officially published or published online before the recruitment announcement deadline and have DOI numbers, and the full text must be uploaded);
  4. Other relevant attachments proving academic achievements.
