College Introduction

The history discipline of Nanjing University began with the National History Department of Sanjiang Normal School established in 1902. In 1952, when the departments were adjusted, the former History College of Central University, Frontier Politics Department and History Department of Jinling University were merged to form the History Department of Nanjing University. Currently, there are three first-level disciplines: Chinese History, World History and Archaeology, which have been ranked among the best in all previous discipline evaluations. The history discipline has a long history of running schools, strong faculty, a complete system for cultivating undergraduate, master and doctoral talents, excellent teaching and research conditions, and attaches great importance to the construction of the faculty team and fully supports the development of young talents.

The Institute of Archaeology, Museums and Chinese Civilization of Nanjing University is a new research institute established by Nanjing University in Suzhou Campus. The institute will focus on the frontier areas of Chinese archaeology, actively explore the long-standing and profound Chinese civilization, and combine field excavation, scientific archaeology, digital technology, image science, etc. to take the path of cross-integration of humanities and technology in multidisciplinary development. It will fully serve the national strategy and the development needs of the economy and society such as the exploration of the origin of Suzhou civilization, and is committed to the construction of new liberal arts in archaeology, museology, cultural relics and cultural relics protection, cultivating compound and application-oriented talents, and striving to enhance the global influence and reputation of Nanjing University Suzhou Campus. 

Recruitment Position Setting

The Institute of Archaeology, Museums and Chinese Civilization of Nanjing University is recruiting Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.

 Recruitment research directions include:

  • Archaeology;
  • Cultural relics protection and scientific and technological archaeology;
  • Museology.

Application Requirements

  1. Commitment to academic teaching and research, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  2. High standards of professional conduct, including adherence to teaching and research ethics; no history of criminal convictions or academic misconduct.
  3. Strong academic background: Ph.D. in a closely related field. Candidates should have experience studying and working in leading research institutions, with a demonstrated record of academic excellence.
    1. For tenure-track Assistant Professor roles, ideally, at least two years of postdoctoral research experience.
    2. For tenure-track Associate Professor roles, ideally, at least four years of postdoctoral research experience.
  4. Proven teaching ability, including the capacity to deliver core and advanced courses effectively. Candidates should be familiar with modern teaching methodologies and possess strong verbal communication skills.
  5. Demonstrated research excellence and potential for continued academic development: a solid record of innovative research with international visibility and a clear and ambitious research agenda.

  • Three letters of recommendation (generally from doctoral supervisors, academic leaders of current work units, and well-known scholars in the field);
  • Detailed resume (in Chinese and English);
  • Three representative works (generally papers or monographs that have been formally published or published online and have DOI numbers, and the full texts must be uploaded);
  • Other relevant attachments proving academic achievements.

Salary and related packages

  • Public institution establishment (except for foreign personnel);
