A position exists for a Research Assistant/Associate in High TRL Aerothermal Testing at the Department of Engineering.
You will join the growing National Centre for Propulsion and Power team, based at the new Whittle Laboratory. You will support the development of world class high TRL turbine testing. For this role, you will have experience in a wide range of engineering disciplines and have a proven track record of successfully delivering aerothermal technology development projects, with specific skills relating to rotating turbine tests. We are looking for a diverse skillset, including good organisational skills and the ability to research, problem-solve, design, and implement ideas in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. In this role, you will be required to have a practical approach, a positive attitude, and be a good communicator.
The post holder will be located in the Whittle Lab., West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
The key responsibilities and duties are to help the team design build and deliver world class turbine testing at TRL 6 level in the Whittle Laboratory's new National Centre for Propulsion and Power. This will require you to create and execute engineering design, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations, Finite Element Analysis, manage and execute the procurement of the build, run the aerothermal testing and process and communicate the results.
The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are an aerothermal PhD with a combination of experimental, numerical and low order modelling experience. The PhD must be completed or near completion, and must be in an aerothermal, ideally gas turbine related field, with experience of rotating rigs at high TRL (4-6).
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
