The Liverpool Law School invites applications for Graduate Teaching Fellowships (GTFs) commencing October 2025.
The successful candidates will join the Law School’s vibrant PGR community, with exciting plans to complete a doctoral research degree. They will additionally deliver undergraduate teaching in the Law School.
We welcome research proposals falling within the expertise of any staff member: for details of our expertise, see Research Expertise - Liverpool Law School - University of Liverpool. We are especially keen to receive applications from candidates whose PhD proposal relates to the activities and the projects of our research clusters, details of which can be found on our cluster webpages (Research - Liverpool Law School - University of Liverpool).
Graduate Teaching Fellows will be based in our state-of-the-art building in the centre of campus and benefit from the Law School’s teaching, research and careers training, along with further training and professional development provided by the University’s Postgraduate Researcher Experience team (Postgraduate researcher experience team Postgraduate Researcher Experience Team- Postgraduate researcher experience team - University of Liverpool).
Person specification
Candidates should have completed (or be near to completing) a postgraduate degree in Law at Masters or an equivalent level. Exceptionally, applications will be considered from applicants who have an excellent first degree in Law or related subject and relevant postgraduate experience (e.g. in practice). Successful applicants will be required to undertake small-group teaching and assessment marking in one or more foundation subjects of English Law (Criminal Law, Contract Law, Tort Law, Public Law, Land Law, Equity and Trusts, EU Law). Previous teaching experience is not required.
Details of the post
The Graduate Teaching Fellows will be funded over a three-year period (dependent on successful progression) of full-time PhD registration, during which the post-holder will teach for the Law School. Over this period, the Law School will pay University fees at the Full-Time UK student rate (currently £5,006), plus a full maintenance grant per annum fixed at the UKRI level (£20,780 in 2025-26). The three years of full-time PhD registration will be followed by an unfunded writing-up period of up to one year. International students are welcome to apply for the GTF posts. However, to comply with UK Immigration regulations there may be a visa requirement. Full-time PhD registration will commence from October 2025.
Application process
Applications should be sent by email to the SLSJPGR Team (slsjpgr@liverpool.ac.uk) and must include a CV, covering letter, three references and a PhD research proposal. Applicants are strongly encouraged to identify and contact a prospective supervisor to discuss their proposal before applying. Staff academic profiles are available via the School’s website (Our people - Liverpool Law School - University of Liverpool)
For queries or further information, please contact Dr. Amanda Cahill–Ripley, Director of Postgraduate Research in Law (email: a.cahill-ripley@liverpool.ac.uk).
The deadline for applications is 9am BST on Monday 9th June, 2025.
We intend to invite shortlisted candidates for a virtual interview, via Microsoft Teams, in early July.
