This Tenure Track position is an ideal way for you to kick-start your professional development in this exciting area providing new knowledge for the green energy transition. You will be among meteorologist working on understanding various meteorological phenomena across difference scales, that impact wind energy, and vice versa. Our research is needed in the process of planning, designing, and operating wind energy installations. This can be at the scale of individual turbines, wind farms, or even wind farm clusters spanning hundreds of kilometers. Your research will be used in close collaboration with others in the department and international partners. This Tenure Track position entails personal career development in the areas of research and innovation, teaching, and attracting research funding.

Responsibilities and qualifications

The focus of this position will be the investigation of meteorological phenomena impacting the wind energy sector, in particular with respect to wind resources and wind conditions. For example, investigating how large-scale wind farm clusters may impact atmospheric and sea conditions over different time and space scales, investigating how wind farm yields may be impacted by proximity of neighbouring wind farm clusters, and understanding different kinds of extreme meteorological events and how these may impact wind energy based power and energy systems. As well being involved in research projects you will take part in highly relevant scientific advice projects, applying your scientific knowledge. You will also be expected to contribute to research project proposals.

The central competences required in this research are meteorology, mesoscale modelling, analysis and interpretation of meteorological datasets. We are also interested in hearing from researchers with oceanographic, as well as meteorological, science background.

The applicant should have:

  • A PhD in Meteorology, Climatology or other related fields
  • Experience in mesoscale modelling, preferably WRF
  • Experience of scientific programming and running code on HPC systems
  • Experience with Fortran, Python and Linux Shell
  • Experience working with large datasets

Preferred but not essential:

  • Knowledge of wind farm parameterizations in mesoscale models
  • Experience in the field of wave modelling or coupled wind-wave modelling
  • Experience with wind resource assessment and site suitability, including WAsP and WEng software
  • Experience using wind turbine wake models
  • Knowledge of meteorological measurements and their use in model validation
  • Experience with industrial collaboration
  • Experience with collaborative programming and GitLab
  • Experience contributing to research project proposals
