Are you eager to contribute to an ambitious, high-impact project advancing sustainability through remanufacturing in a circular economy context? DTU is recruiting for multiple positions to join a newly established National Center for Remanufacturing - reManuFactory.

DTU Engineering Technology is seeking a post-doc in technology implementation for remanufacturing to play a key role in demonstrating remanufacturing solutions in realistic settings, facilitating the integration of technical, economic, and environmental considerations to raise technology maturity and business readiness. In this position, you will work in close collaboration with companies in the sectors of metal products & components, mechanical & electro-mechanical products, electronics products, and plastics & composite products.

The objective of the post-doc is to facilitate and coordinate industry-university collaboration in the development and implementation of remanufacturing systems, consisting of (a) remanufacturing processes, (b) take-back systems, (c) design for disassembly and circularity, (d) business models, and (e) sustainability and circularity assessment. The project will analyse sustainability impact and the drivers of remanufacturing, as well as research readiness levels (e.g., technology readiness).

Responsibilities and qualifications

The successful candidate will join the Section of Production, Transportation and Planning at DTU Engineering Technology, working within a multidisciplinary, international, and diverse team. In a world where circular economy and remanufacturing are seen as key to ensuring radically reduced resource consumption, improved climate impact, improved industrial and societal resilience, and heightened competitive edge, we are seeking a sharp, highly motivated and collaborative colleague for this position, able to partake the following primary tasks:

  • Coordinate laboratory-scale demonstration activities of remanufacturing, facilitating planning and execution of tests, managing communication and activities between participating companies and relevant DTU staff.
  • Facilitate technical, environmental, and economic assessments of remanufacturing systems.
  • Contribute to monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) of the reManuFactory project.
  • Engage companies through Co-Labs, Pilots, and Drop-In formats, to be demonstrators of the methods developed in the wider reManuFactory project.
  • Help organize BEng, BSc, & MSc course activities engaged with the project reManuFactory.
  • Research methods to classify readiness levels of remanufacturing systems and monitor their progress in readiness levels (e.g., TRL).
  • Identify and document enablers and barriers for the uptake of remanufacturing as well as policy implications and recommendations for successful remanufacturing systems.
  • Collaborate across work packages and with academic and industry partners.
  • Support the dissemination of results through publications in high-impact journals and stakeholder engagement.

Your primary qualifications are:

  • As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) experience within Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or other relevant field.
  • Hands-on experience with lab-scale experimentation or technology demonstration.
  • Familiarity with TRL frameworks and sustainability assessment.
  • Strong project coordination skills, breaking down large objectives into tasks and monitoring progress.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, collaborative and with a social attitude, eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues or industry partners.
  • Motivated, structured, and collaborative mindset.
  • Good communication skills in both in spoken and written English
  • Proven ability to work across disciplines and collaborate with industrial and academic partners.
  • Strong motivation, independence, and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Experience in disseminating research through scientific publications and conferences.
