Associate Lecturer - Epidemiology

Do you have a passion for teaching and epidemiology? Join Birkbeck, University of London, as an Associate Lecturer delivering epidemiology classes to our undergraduate bioscience students.

As Associate Lecturer, you will contribute to teaching on the final year of our BSc Bioscience and Health, and BSc Biomedicine programme, preparing and delivering an epidemiology module to students who have chosen this module.

As Associate Lecturer, on a three-month, fixed-term contract, you will teach:

• Epidemiology - level 6
• 27 hours - teaching 1-4pm, 6–9pm Thursdays
• Autumn Term - October to December 2025.

As part of the School of Natural Sciences, you will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching within the biological and health sciences and to providing support to students that fosters academic growth. 

As an Associate Lecturer in Epidemiology, you will:

• Teach within a predefined programme, and deliver engaging teaching materials and methods
• Encourage critical thinking and debate among students
• Set, mark, and assess student work and provide constructive feedback
• Participate in course development and curriculum planning, and undertake administration to maintain student records.

For the role of Associate Lecturer, we are looking for candidates who:

• Possess effective presentation and communication skills
• Are skilled in using ICT and virtual learning environments
• Have formal teaching experience, especially with adult learners
• Show commitment to diversity and student engagement.

You will have knowledge and experience of Epidemiology and be qualified to the corresponding level of the award as required to teach (or demonstrate equivalent professional/industry level experience).

Salary:

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £68.13 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
