Are you an experienced investigator with a sensitive approach who enjoys working autonomously and as part of a high performing team?

The investigation team within the Office of Student Conduct, Complaints and Appeals is recruiting for two Investigators: one full time permanent post and one 0.8 FTE maternity cover post. The roles will join the current team comprising a Senior Investigators and three Investigators.

Your primary role will be conducting investigations into allegations of student misconduct, including serious sexual misconduct, abusive behaviour involving protected characteristics and advising on academic misconduct.  You will be responsible for gathering the accounts and evidence for the relevant parties, providing the information in an investigation report and presenting it to decision-makers. Your specialist knowledge and skills will ensure that investigations are conducted in a sensitive, professional and proportionate manner.

The investigators sit within the Office of Student Conduct, Complaints and Appeals (OSCCA).  OSCCA manages cases, reviews procedures and advises on matters relating to formal University student procedures including: student discipline; student complaints about the University; appeals relating to examination results and other University body decisions; and a student's capacity to study.

You will have proven experience of conducting sensitive and complex investigations, including investigations of alleged conduct that could constitute an alleged criminal offence and/or serious sexual misconduct. You will be able to demonstrate specialist knowledge of the complexities of sexual misconduct, including the impact on those involved. You will understand the barriers that exist to reporting misconduct, and where these can be exacerbated as a result of a person's protected characteristics. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, along with the ability to write detailed, accurate and succinct investigation reports reflecting an understanding of relevant legislation is essential.

We are keen to encourage applicants who are Black, Asian or from a minority ethnicity within the UK to apply for these roles, as they are currently under-represented within OSCCA. It is especially important to us to try and be reflective of the University's diverse student population to build trust and confidence in the reporting procedures.

Both roles are available from 1 August 2025.
