Job description:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to join the IDEA (Intelligent Design of Engineering Alloys) group at the University of Sheffield, to contribute to the development of cutting-edge manufacturing solutions that have the potential to revolutionise industrial implementation in space and additive manufacturing methods.
You can play a pivotal role in optimising the manufacturing of tungsten blanks for hollow cathodes, a critical component in metal additive manufacturing and space propulsion.
The project is funded by the UK Space Agency, in collaboration with Mars Space Ltd., Wayland Additive and the University of Southampton.
We are seeking candidates who hold (or are close to holding) a PhD in materials science, engineering or manufacturing, with a deep understanding of characterisation techniques from advanced microscopy to advanced diffraction methods.
We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
