Professorial Post
The University of Birmingham’s School of Computer Science is experiencing a sustained period of academic success and strategic growth. As part of this exciting trajectory, we are seeking to expand our educational leadership and invite applications for a Chair (Full Professor) position. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead the School’s education team and shape its strategic direction in computer science and artificial intelligence, working collaboratively across the College and University.
We are looking for candidates with a world-leading profile in computer science, with a strong track record in either education or research. If you are passionate about computer science education and have demonstrated excellence in teaching and/or research, this is an exceptional opportunity to influence the future of our academic community.
The School of Computer Science is a centre of innovation, excellence, and pioneering research and education. We are proud to be ranked 5th in the UK for education (The Times, 2025) and 3rd nationally for GPA and 4-star research outputs in Computer Science (Research Excellence Framework). As a professor in our School, you will join and lead a team of outstanding researchers, educators, and professionals committed to fostering a collaborative, creative, and forward-thinking environment.
We are keen to hear from candidates who bring an inclusive and open-minded leadership style, and who are passionate about supporting students throughout their university journey. You will bring a world-class academic profile in a relevant area, the vision and capability to lead and inspire staff, and the drive to support and empower our student body. This is your opportunity to help shape and grow a globally recognised department and to make a lasting impact by educating the next generation of computer scientists.
As part of the University of Birmingham, you will benefit from access to state-of-the-art facilities, internationally renowned research centres, and a wide network of academic and industry partnerships. Our strong commitment to diversity and inclusion ensures a welcoming and supportive environment for all.
